Obstacle Mud Runner - Issue 1 - page 7

The 10-year-old BRUTAL run series has an established
reputation of being a very tough race. Each of
the popular 12 events offer a range of running
experiences: varying from the very muddy and
waterlogged to the horribly hilly.
If you’re looking for something a bit more special
than your standard cross-country run but without the
queues for obstacles, then a BRUTAL run could be
for you.
You won’t encounter any electric shocks or monkey
bars during a BRUTAL, but each event features a
completely different and unique series of natural
obstacles. The routes quickly divert from the forest
trails and weave through the thick forest of the army
training land. You’ll ask yourself “are they serious?”
as the red and white tape guides you up a hill that
appears to have been borrowed from the Alps. Hollie
(BRUTAL finisher) said: “You always remember a
run when you end up somewhere (or come across
something) totally random or unexpected. That’s
exactly what you can expect from a BRUTAL.”
The most recent event was at Frith Hill on 18th June,
and includes a succession of multiple short, steep hills
and plenty of twists and turns. This event also featured
a 2.5km Kids’ Race, which is carefully designed to
truly reflect a BRUTAL course, but is both safe and
suitable for kids as young as 5. Race Director Colin
said: “The children see the sheer determination and
celebrations of their parents who cross the finish
line and aspire to do the same. They want to feel as
though they’ve just completed a BRUTAL too.”
Barbara (BRUTAL finisher) said: “Last year’s event
was so good that I am doing it again. There is nothing
nicer than running through the forest and the course
is first class...
