A child in a sweet shop springs to mind when I found
out I’d be trying this product. I’m never one to jump
on the latest fad bandwagon whenever a new product
hits the market but this new kid on the block in the
form of KitBrix was something I knew I wanted to be
involved in.
When it comes to my kit bag, the
‘mum’ instinct in me kicks in. I don’t
travel light when it comes to my kit.
I like to be prepared so I often have
spare t-shirts, spare socks, spare
spares!
Upon first glance I was concerned
about how compact the KitBrix was
and for a moment I was anxious at the possibility of
having to reduce my so called essentials. What if I
actually needed those spare t-shirts or socks one day
and I didn’t have them? It’s reassuring to know that I
can zip 2 bags together for those days when I need
extra kit.
Surprisingly, 1 was ample space and now fully loaded
with my spares and dry post race kit I still had plenty
of space for my toiletries, towel and other must
haves. By toiletries of course, in true OCR fashion,
I mean a pack of baby wipes which conveniently
stowed in my KitBrix WashPak. Snacks and drinks
were stashed in the side pockets which meant they
were within easy reach at all times.
Lastly, the towel. I say towel, It’s a rather thin
looking, white, yes I said WHITE MicroDry towel.
First impression, whose bright idea was this? It’ll be
some grubby, greyish, brownish colour from this day
onwards. It turns out, the whiteness was a genius
idea! I knew exactly which bits I’d already used so
was reassured when I wiped my face that is hadn’t
just been used to wipe other less favourable body
parts. Plenty big enough to wrap all around me
and describing it as soft just doesn’t cut it. I can
only imagine this is how babies feel when they’re
swaddled in a super soft blanket. If I could have worn
the MicroDry home, I think I would have done.
I ‘pimped’ my bag by personalising the ID pouch.
I know no-one will have an identical bag to mine now.
I had everything packed in order of need and neatly
organised. The solid base of the bag meant no falling
over in the car. One of the two inner zipped pockets
had some money and my race waiver securely inside
and within easy reach. The outer
mesh pockets meant easy access to
my water and pre race snack and
the adjustable strap meant I could
carry it at a length that’s comfortable
to me or I could have used the top
carry handle if I didn’t want to use
the strap.
Feeling smug with how organised
my kit and other items in my bag
were I set off on race morning with a satisfied head,
knowing that I was as ready and prepared as I could
be. Not the usual last minute checking that I had
everything, nor the normal rummaging in the bottom
of a black bag where who knows what else could be
lurking whilst searching for something.
I ran my race and returned cold and shivery.
After collecting my KitBrix from the baggage area,
the chunky outer zip is a welcome feature to my
shaking fingers. I opened my bag up and could see
everything I needed right in front of me. Already
packed in order of need I reached for my lovely
white towel. A very welcome hug in the form of this
MicroDry was perfect.
So, dried and now dressed and using forefinger and
thumb I picked up my wet, muddy kit and placed
it in my DobiPak, trail trainers included, which then
conveniently fitted back into my KitBrix and all the while
keeping the insides of my bag perfectly clean and dry.
I left the venue and headed for home. The loathsome
task of having to deal with the after kit lay in waiting.
With the familiar dunk in a bucket then transfer to
washing machine done, I wondered just how bad my
‘once was soft and white’ MicroDry would really end up.
Well, I’m IMPRESSED! My white MicroDry is WHITE.
Fully restored back to its original glorious self. I’m that
impressed I’ve already bought another and seriously
considering doing away with the bath towels at home.

We tried, we tested,

says on the tin’
has never been
more apt.
No fuss, just
