Obstacle Mud Runner - Issue 7

I felt like an excited puppy when I was asked to review these. I love trying out new kit and this time was no different, it’s like Christmas had come early. I’m generally a “play it safe” kinda girl and if I don’t like something I tend to steer clear and it barely gets to see the light of day again. This isn’t the case for these I’m glad to say. The new XA Enduro from Salomon has some great features. Most noticeably, it has an integrated gaiter, which (I quote Salomon) “Keeps the grit under your soles, not in your shoes.” They were a good snug fit around the ankles, not too big so no gaps but not so tight you need a degree in contortionism to get them on. They have quite a firm sole which helps stabilise the foot on uneven surfaces. I have quite wide feet so these are a welcome feature for me. These are definitely an outdoor, off the beaten track type of shoe, so if you’re a “stick to the road” runner, these aren’t for you. They have premium wet traction rubber which means you get a good grip, even on wet surfaces, however, I wouldn’t say these were a muddy OCR race shoe. Tried & Tested At 300g they are a fairly lightweight shoe and they’re definitely an easy clean too. They have the same classic Quicklace system as the Speedcross. Minimalistic and strong lace for one-pull tightening. Easy-on, easy-off. The shoe itself offers cushioning and support and has a breathable open mesh top. Available in 2 striking colour combo’s – black/lime green or orange/blue. I’m normally a size 7. I got these in a 7.5. They were just right.
