FOOTWEAR: REVIEW
OMR field test trainers
Asics Fuji Runnegades.
Firstly, I’d just like to mention that I am a novice mud
runner. I have completed my very first OCR and have
just started to take event racing a bit more seriously.
(not too seriously though). The Fuji Runnegades are
my first pair of serious trail shoes.
Weight:
Much lighter than I had thought a shoe with
that much grip would have.
Comfort:
Straight out of the box these were extremely
comfortable however I was worried that the ankle
hugging foot guard would rub and cause blisters es-
pecially when wet. My first run involved a deep sand
bridleway, deep mud, a short knee deep river section
and various other harder terrain types. At no point
did the shoe rub or cause me any problems. On the
contrary I had no debris in my shoe at all and my feet
felt surprisingly fresh. I usually suffer from hot spots
on the balls of my feet when I run but I didn’t have
this problem with these shoes.
Grip:
The grip was excellent. I felt like I was able to
drive up muddy slopes more efficiently and felt less
drained at the top but I was most impressed with
how well they shed the mud. I wasn’t plagued with
having to carry half of the course around with me on
the bottom of my shoe. However, I have suffered from
knee injuries for some time and the grip on some of
the firmer terrain was a bit too good at times causing
Brooks.
Weight:
I would say they are of an average weight
from what I have used before so they felt good upon
first impression.
Comfort:
Felt great straight away, it was as if they
had already been broken in.
Grip:
I have used these mainly off road and so
far they seem to be very good.
Design:
The design has
really grown on
me and I really
like them.
me to over stretch my knees when turning as my foot
remained planted. Something to adjust to I guess, in
a positive way.
Design:
The colours are a bit bright for my liking but
that probably says more about me than the shoe. I
did like the feel of them and the material definitely
helps mud to not stick to the outer.
Durability:
They are seriously tough. They have barely
sustained any damage despite getting a thorough
testing now over 6 maybe 7 off road runs.
True to size:
I would advise buying the shoe a half
size bigger as I felt they came up a little smaller than
my regular Asics.
Final Thoughts:
these are worth buying just for the
ankle hugger and the way that the grip sheds mud so
easily. An absolute joy to wear. I will be looking out for
slightly more boring colour schemes though.
Durability:
As I said I’ve done most running off road
and them seem to be very good. I think they will stay
strong in heavier wet conditions too.
Size:
I have a size 8 and they seem quite roomy. I
have quite wide feet but possibly could have done
with a 7.5.
Final thoughts:
Having never worn Brooks I wasn’t
sure what I was going to get but have to say I’m more
than happy with them. The feel great and I’m sure I
will get plenty of good use out of them. (perhaps with
2 pairs of socks)
